Exile monographs
A catalogue of the exile books fund, the Libri prohibiti, has finally found its way to the internet. It is the first catalogue presented in this way, and we hope others will follow soon.
The catalogue contains come non periodicals published in the West, either in Czech (marginally, some specific literature concerning the Czech Republic has been included – e.g. publications on ecology and mainly religious literature directed towards readers in Czechoslovakia, or the Czech Republic), or in other languages, as long as these were published by a Czech exile publishing house or the author himself. The user will not find then translations from Czech to other languages, with the exception of those published either in parallel with the Czech original in one book, or by a Czech exile publisher. Conversely, there are translation to the Czech language, mostly religious literature, and so called missionary literature in particular.
Alongside with classical books we have included also small publications, frequently comprising of merely a few pages, often duplicated (especially in the 50s), various separate prints or manuscripts copied by the author (e.g. Xeroxed). We have included also monographic magazine issue (Rencontres, Revue K i. a.). All these writings have been included in the catalogue even though these are obviously not books.
The catalogue spans period starting in February 1948 to present, and hence also “post-November” publications. Teh fund currently contains 3443 various exile publications, which represents roughly 9 tenths of the overall number of publications known to date. Obviously, missing publications have not been included. A list of these may be found under the heading Missing Books and Publications. Slovak exile monographs (download)

After the catalogue of the exile books fund and the catalogue of Slovak exile literature, a catalogue of Czechoslovak exile literature from the period of the Second World War is now being presented on the internet.
The catalogue contains some non periodicals published in the West during the Second World War, either in Czech, Slovak or in other languages, providing these publications are in some way related to Czechoslovakia. Apart from publications published by Czechoslovak exiles in Great Britain there is also material from fellow countrymen in the USA, Canada, India etc.
Alongside classical books we have also included small publications, frequently comprising of merely a few pages, often duplicated (especially in the 50s), various separate prints or manuscripts copied by the author (e.g. Xeroxed). All these writings have been included in the catalogue even though they are obviously not books.
The catalogue covers the period of the Second World War, or rather the years between 1938- 1946. Our fund currently contains about half of all existing publications. Obviously, missing publications have not been included. A list of these may be found under the heading Missing Books and Publications. Countryman monographs (download)
As the fourth item in our sequence of exile publications, we are now putting up on the internet the catalogue of the Libri Prohibiti collection of books, published abroad. This version is temporary and we will keep working to revise, correct and complete it.
The catalogue contains irregular publications, published by our countrymen in Czech and, more marginally, also in Slovak (including religious literature), or in other languages, provided that these books were put out by an exile publishing house or by exile authors themselves. There are also the translations from Czech into other languages, wherever these had been issued by some Czech exile publishing house.
The books published by our countrymen abroad are very diverse and cover mainly the publications by Czech-Americans, ranging from the 19-th century to the 1930’s, excluding the items from both World Wars. There are also the publications of the Austrian countrymen from the 19-th century to the 1930’s, and the countrymen from former Yugoslavia and Ukraine, who remain active in publishing to this day.
The catalogue covers the period from 19-th century to the present, including the „post-communist“ publications. Our collection currently holds 406 items of various soft- and hardcover publications. We are grateful for any information or assistence in enlarging our collection.
First czechoslovak resistance monographs (download)
As the fifth item in our sequence of exile publications, we are now putting up on the internet the catalogue of print publications by the First Czechoslovak Resistance.
The catalogue contains irregular publications (books and booklets), printed outside of the area of the former Czechoslovakia during the First World War and shortly afterwards in Czech, Slovak, Russian, or in other languages, as long as they pertain to the Czechoslovak Legions and other efforts to create an independent Czechoslovak state.
It covers the period of the First World War, extended as appropriate, including the years 1914-1920, and in some cases dated even later. Our collection currently holds only a portion of the literature that meets these criteria. We do not mention of course the missing publications. The list of these will be forthcoming under the heading „Wanted: Books.“ We are grateful for any information or assistence in enlarging our collection.
